OXYGEN, VOGUE KNITTING AND knit.1 MAGAZINES INSPIRE VIEWERS TO EMBRACE THEIR “INNER KNIT” WITH STITCHCRAFT

High Energy Knitting Special Premieres Sunday, March 5 th at 3:00 PM*

NEW YORK, February 20, 2006 – Knit one, purl two -- Oxygen's Stitchcraft is a motivating knitting special hand-crafted just for Oxygen viewers, premiering Sunday, March 5 th at 3:00 pm*. According to the Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA), women aged 25-35 are fueling a “yarn revolution” evidenced by an astonishing 150% increase in stitch craft participation rates since 2002. As the number of young knitting enthusiasts continues to sky-rocket, so do the voracious appetites for trendy project ideas beyond the standard scarf. Oxygen's answered the call with Stitchcraft -- not your grandmother's knitting show.

The 30-minute special Stitchcraft follows Adina Klein, Fashion Director for Vogue Knitting and Editor in Chief of Vogue's knit.1 magazine, and host Lily Chin , the world's fastest crocheter and renowned knitting author, as they go “behind the stitch” to explore and connect to a world of high-fashion knitwear designers. Steering clear of the expected “how-to” format of a typical craft show, this fast-paced special is designed to inject viewers with doses of knitting inspiration and techniques.

On set at Vogue Knitting and knit.1 photo shoots, Klein features the designs of Anna Sui, Michael Kors, Adrienne Vittadini and Cynthia Rowley and shows how to keep one step ahead of the trends by employing knitwear design elements incorporated in these designers' current collections. In other segments, she exposes the phenomenon of the rising popularity of knitting among men and demonstrates how to transform old t-shirts and sweatshirts into wardrobe centerpieces with the use of knitted components. Finally, the Stitchcraft crew travels to the studio of cutting-edge, ready-to-wear designer, James Coviello, to uncover his sources of inspiration and eye-catching style. Host Lily Chin imparts plenty of knit wit throughout the show in the form of “Lily Tips” -- time-savers and advice for all knitting skill levels culled from her years of experience.

Stitchcraft is created and executive produced by Kathleen Minton, Executive Producer and Vice President, Oxygen Media.

“With fifty-three million women crocheting and knitting, it's no secret that it's hot among our key demographic,” says Debby Beece, President of Programming and Marketing for Oxygen. “Adina and the staff of Vogue Knitting reworked a traditional ‘how-to' formula and made it vibrant, informative, and fresh.”
